How your donations help NWOI

Every non-profit association has three general categories of expenses:

  • Programs and activities to fulfill their mission (including development of new ideas and programs)
  • Management (necessary “activities of daily living” needed to keep the organization running)
  • Fundraising (including writing grants)

As a non-profit association, we need funds to support activities that are not completely self-sufficient. Many of these needs fall under our education mission in our outreach to the public. Some of the needs are within the research mission, particularly as we seek to facilitate broader community-based research among public health and clinical scientists.

Tribute gifts

You can make a tribute gift in memory of your friend or family member, in honor of someone very special to you or to recognize someone for a special occasion.

  • Memorialize a loved one or close friend.
  • Celebrate a birthday, anniversary, engagement or any special event.
  • Honor a graduation, marriage, childbirth and more.

You can make your gift over the phone, by mail or on our Web site. We will send a special acknowledgement card recognizing your gift to anyone you would like. (The amount of your gift will not be included on the card.) In addition, all tribute gifts will be acknowledged in a special section of our end-of-year newsletter and our website.

Advantages to NWOI of unrestricted donations

Gifts that are not restricted to certain activities are the most positive financially and the most helpful to NWOI. This is because anything else, generally speaking, creates additional costs for us which may be under-funded. Giving donations without attached restrictions does not mean that donors cannot or should not be actively involved in communicating with us about plans for the funds and program strategy. But it often means that we can move funds as necessary to cover costs in all three basic areas.
